The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates that by 2024 computing occupations in the United States will grow by 12 percent or about 488,500 new jobs - 71% faster than all other occupations in the United States, with a median wage well over twice that of all occupations.
Establishing a skilled computing workforce is essential to the long term economic stability of the region and can provide Alabama students long-term, recession-resilient employment opportunity. The School of Computing will meet the challenge.

Unlike many universities, the computing paradigms are centralized at USA. This allows for overlap and cross pollination that enriches each computing field, while providing each space to accomplish the depth of basic research.
